Throat and Lung Problems Associated With Mold

throat lung mold illnessWhen you have a mold problem in your home or business, there is more to the problem than just unsightly mold growing on the walls. You and your family will be continually inhaling the mold spores that spread through the air. These spores can trigger allergies and cause symptoms such as sneezing and runny nose. The spores can also irritate your throat and lungs as well.

The most common symptoms of mold exposure are cold or flu-like symptoms. These would include such things as sneezing and coughing. The mold spores will irritate your throat, affecting the mucus membranes and can even become lodged in the lungs, leading to chronic sneezing and coughing. Other issues breathing issues you may experience included wheezing and shortness of breath. If you are already susceptible to allergies, mold spores will only make your symptoms worse. Additionally, if you are exposed to mold for a lengthy amount of time, you may develop asthma, if you don't already have it. If you do have it, the mold will only make it worse.

How Mold Spores Cause Health Problems

Mold spores by themselves don't cause injury to your body. Our immune system tries to protect us and this is what causes the symptoms. The majority of the symptoms are allergic reactions, that's why people have runny noses and itchy throats. In addition to the allergic reactions, mold spores can also act as an irritant, so even if you aren't allergic, you may still experience throat and lung problems.
