Lead Paint Inspection

Many homes and apartments built before 1978 were painted with lead based paint containing a dangerously high level of lead. Lead from paint chips and dust can pose serious health hazards if improperly handled. Cost associated with the removal of lead-based paint is high. A simple lead test can save you hundreds even thousands of dollars.

If you are planning to buy, rent or renovate a home built before 1978; it is suggested to have a lead test conducted on the homes interior paint.

Radon Testing

Nearly 1 in 15 homes in the United States is estimated to have elevated levels of radon. You can not see, smell or taste radon, but it may be a problem in your home.

You and your family are most likely to get your greatest exposure at home, where you spend the most time. Radon testing is the first step to ensuring a healthy environment for you and your family.

Septic Inspection

When buying a home with a septic system, the tank should be pumped and a septic tank inspection should be conducted. The most common problems found with septic systems are:

  • Overloading the system with too much flow

  • Putting things down the drain which are harmful to the tank

  • Failing to have the tank pumped periodically to remove built-up solids

Well Water Testing

If you own, or are in the process of purchasing a rural home in the Maryland, Virginia or Washington DC area; it will generally have a private water supply (well) and a private sewage disposal system (septic).

We highly recommend having a well water test completed prior to taking ownership of any property in Charles County, Saint Mary's County, Calvert County, Anne Arundel County, Montgomery County, Prince Georges County of Maryland, including Arlington County and Fairfax County, King George of Virginia.

Special consideration should be taken for older homes in Alexandria, Virginia and Washington DC because of lead water pipes, and a lead test should be completed as well.

There are many types of water tests available. Give American Home Services a call for a consultation.
